The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections. On Friday, September 25, 2026, he reviewed the Command's preparedness and held a strategic security meeting with senior management, Area Commanders, and Tactical Commanders.
The proposed refresher course, organised with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), aims to strengthen the professional capacity and operational preparedness of security personnel. The training will cover professionalism, human rights, democratic policing, conflict prevention, crowd control, communication, community engagement, election security, and the lawful discharge of security responsibilities.
CP Nnanna emphasised that effective election security requires personnel who are operationally prepared and grounded in professionalism, neutrality, respect for fundamental rights, and accountability. He stressed the importance of continuous training and professional development as the Command commences early preparations for the 2027 elections.
The strategic security meeting reviewed the security situation across Anambra State and assessed the Command's operational readiness. The meeting examined emerging security threats, intelligence gathering, visibility patrols, surveillance, rapid response, crime prevention, community-based policing, and inter-agency collaboration.
CP Nnanna directed Area and Tactical Commanders to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve intelligence collection and utilisation, and sustain aggressive but lawful patrols and surveillance. He also ordered commanders to maintain effective command presence and supervision, regularly assess the security situation, and ensure prompt response to distress calls.
The Commissioner warned that the Command would not tolerate extortion, corruption, abuse of human rights, or conduct capable of undermining the Police's credibility. He charged commanders to enforce discipline and accountability and take responsibility for personnel conduct and performance under their command.
CP Nnanna reiterated the Command's commitment to professional, people-centred, intelligence-led, and community-based policing. He assured residents that the Command would continue to strengthen its operational capacity, improve police visibility and response, and deploy resources to protect lives and property across Anambra State.
