Former Ambassador to China, Edward Akwasi Boateng, has congratulated the newly elected national executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and urged them to prioritize reconciliation, rebuild the party's structures, and restore public confidence ahead of the 2028 General Election. The party elected national officers on October 3, 2026, to lead the party for the next four years.

The newly elected executives include Mr. Boadu as National Chairman, Mr. Kodua as General Secretary, and other key positions. Mr. Boateng, in a congratulatory message, stated that the outcome of the Conference placed a significant responsibility on the new leadership to unite the party and strengthen its organizational structures. He emphasized the need for the party to learn from the 2024 General Election and build a united and disciplined organization.

Mr. Boateng lauded the new Chairman, Mr. Boadu, for his resilience and longstanding service and commitment to the NPP. However, he cautioned that Mr. Boadu's task goes beyond administering the Party and requires rebuilding an effective organization from the grassroots to the national level. He stressed that every tradition and tendency within the NPP must find a place in the rebuilding effort.

Mr. Boateng urged the new leadership to revitalize the Party's grassroots structures, promote discipline and accountability, and help rebuild public confidence in the NPP. He emphasized that the task now is to build a united and formidable Party capable of supporting the party's Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and returning the NPP to government in 2029.

Regarding Mr. Kodua's re-election as General Secretary, Mr. Boateng stated that it constitutes a strong mandate and urged him to work closely with the Chairman and the wider national executive to strengthen the party. He emphasized the need for Mr. Kodua to lead with competence, fairness, and humility, and remain accessible to the grassroots.

Mr. Boateng also called for members who supported different candidates in the internal elections, as well as those who had become disconnected from the party, to be brought back into the fold. He warned that the challenge ahead requires unity, humility, hard work, fresh thinking, and a compelling message capable of reconnecting the party with Ghanaians.

The NPP's new leadership has a significant responsibility to unite the party and strengthen its organizational structures ahead of the 2028 General Election. The party's Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will be counting on the new leadership to build a united and disciplined organization capable of winning back the confidence of Ghanaians.
