Amadou Sow, an economist and banker with over a decade of experience in the financial sector, has been appointed as the new Director General of the Société malienne de gestion de l'eau potable (SOMAGEP-SA). The appointment was made by the Council of Ministers on September 30, 2026, under the presidency of General Assimi Goïta, Head of State. Sow's background is in banking and finance, with experience in account management, SME financing, internal audit, and risk management.

Before his appointment to SOMAGEP-SA, Sow worked at the Banque Malienne de Solidarité (BMS-SA), where he started as an enterprise account manager in January 2014. He spent over six years in this role, developing a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial world and financing mechanisms. In June 2020, he became Head of the SME-PMI-ONG-SFD department at BMS-SA, further expanding his experience in financing small and medium-sized enterprises.

Sow's career took a new turn in September 2022 when he became an internal auditor at BMS-SA, a position he held until May 2024. He then joined Benba-Mooty Finances as Director of Internal Control, Compliance, and Risks, where he worked until April 2026. His experience in risk management, internal control, and compliance will likely be valuable in his new role at SOMAGEP-SA.

Sow holds a Master's degree in Financial Management, Management Control, and Audit from the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne in France, which he completed between 2008 and 2013. He also has a professional certification from the French Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF). His education and professional background make him a strong candidate to lead SOMAGEP-SA.

As Director General of SOMAGEP-SA, Sow will be responsible for managing and distributing potable water to the population. The company operates in an environment with increasing demand for water, particularly in urban areas like Bamako. The new leadership will need to address technical, operational, financial, and managerial challenges to meet the population's expectations.

Sow's appointment marks a significant change in his career, shifting from the banking and finance sector to a strategic public company responsible for providing an essential service. His experience in risk management, internal control, and project management will be crucial in his new role. He will need to apply his skills to manage the complexities of providing potable water to the population.

With his appointment, Sow begins a new chapter in his career, moving from managing numbers to managing a vital resource: water. His experience as a financier and manager will be put to the test as he navigates the realities of a public service essential to the population. The success of SOMAGEP-SA under his leadership will depend on his ability to balance technical, operational, and financial challenges.
