As of Monday, September 28, 2026, the Bizerte Maternity and Pediatrics Center has completed its final phase of relocation and renovation. The center's maternity and neonatal units have been transferred from their temporary location at Habib Bougatfa University Hospital to their new headquarters. This marks the completion of the relocation process, with all units now fully operational.
The center has undergone significant renovations, with a total investment of over 16 million dinars. The renovation work included civil engineering, fluids, air conditioning, and electrical networks for the first, second, and ground floors, as well as the basement and external infrastructure. The center now features modern and state-of-the-art facilities.
The Bizerte Maternity and Pediatrics Center comprises two main sections: obstetrics and gynecology, named after the late Dr. Rashid Trass, and pediatrics. The obstetrics and gynecology section has seven medical and treatment units, including residence, emergency obstetrics, external consultations, assisted reproduction, post-operative care, and operations with four operating rooms. The section has 60 equipped beds.
The pediatric section has 30 beds and 15 incubators, divided into four units: residence, neonatology, external consultations, and pediatric emergencies. The center's management expressed gratitude to President Kais Saied for his support and follow-up on the project, which enabled the completion of the renovation and modernization of the center.
Regional Health Director, Dr. Salma Mshirq, highlighted the efforts made by the central structures, regional authorities, and health administration to ensure the center's smooth operation. The center's staff, including medical, paramedical, and administrative personnel, are now working in optimal conditions.
The center's operational capacity was tested with a successful surgical procedure performed on September 21, 2026, involving a hysterectomy using a laparoscope in the new operating room of the obstetrics and gynecology section. The center is now fully equipped to provide quality healthcare services to the local population.
Bizerte Governor and Regional Health Council President, Salem Ben Yaakoub, expressed appreciation for the support received from President Kais Saied, which enabled the project's completion. The center's modernization and renovation will improve healthcare services for the region's residents.
