As of Monday, the Banzart maternity and pediatric center has completed its relocation and is now fully operational. The center's new facilities, renovated with a budget of over 16 million dinars, include a maternity ward, pediatric ward, and various medical units. The center is now equipped to provide comprehensive healthcare services to mothers and children.
The center's renovation included civil engineering, fluid, air conditioning, and electrical network works on all three floors, as well as the basement and surrounding areas. The project aimed to modernize and upgrade the healthcare facility, providing better services to the community. The center is now home to a maternity ward, named after the late Dr. Rashid Trass, and a pediatric ward.
The maternity ward has seven medical and treatment units, including emergency services, outpatient clinics, and post-operative care. The ward has 60 equipped beds and four operating rooms. The pediatric ward has 30 beds, 15 incubators, and four units, including emergency services, outpatient clinics, and a neonatal unit.
Banzart Governorate's Regional Health Council head, Salem Ben Yaakoub, expressed gratitude to President Kais Saied for his support and follow-up on the project. The president's involvement enabled the completion of the project after years of delays. Ben Yaakoub also praised the efforts of all parties involved in the project's realization.
Banzart's Regional Health Director, Dr. Salma Mshirq, highlighted the efforts made by central structures, including the Ministry of Health and local authorities, to ensure the center's smooth operation. The center's staff, including medical, paramedical, and administrative personnel, are now working in optimal conditions.
The center's operational capacity was tested with a successful surgical procedure performed on Monday, September 21, 2026. The procedure, a laparoscopic hysterectomy, was carried out in the center's new operating room. This milestone marks the beginning of the center's full operational capacity.
The center's inauguration is expected to improve healthcare services for mothers and children in the Banzart region. The facility's modernization and upgrade will provide better care and working conditions for medical staff. The project's success is a result of collaboration between various stakeholders, including government authorities and healthcare professionals.
