The director of hydraulic resources in Tizi Ouzou, Djouder Mokrane, has reassured the public that the water supply in the region is stable despite concerns over drought. Mokrane stated that the level of some wells and dams has decreased, but measures are being taken to address the issue. A new well is being prepared for service to replace two existing ones that have seen a decline in water levels.

The authority has been monitoring water levels since 2011 and has determined that the current situation is better than in previous years.
In the event of a prolonged drought, Mokrane assured that the hydraulic resources directorate has a plan in place to ensure a stable water supply. He noted that the demand for water has increased due to population growth and agricultural needs, but measures are being taken to manage this demand. The authority is working to promote water conservation and efficient use.
Mokrane also discussed several ongoing projects aimed at improving the water supply in the region. The project to transfer water from the Tichy Haf dam is progressing, with 40% of the work completed. However, the project has faced opposition from some landowners, which has caused delays.
Another project, the Tamda Ouguemoun desalination plant, has been put on hold due to issues in the neighboring province of Boumerdès. Mokrane stated that the project has been abandoned in favor of a new one in Boumerdès, and a new desalination plant will be built in Tizi Ouzou in two phases.
The authority is also working to improve wastewater treatment and management in the region. Eight old and six new wastewater treatment plants have been transferred to the authority, but their implementation has been delayed. Mokrane emphasized that these projects will help protect the Taksebt dam and ensure a stable water supply for the population.
