Algerian rebel Matoub Lounes' mother, N’na Aldjia Matoub, is recovering in a Paris hospital after rumours of her death spread on social media. A statement from the Matoub Lounes Foundation, released on January 15, confirmed that she was hospitalized in a stable condition and improving. The foundation urged people to verify information before sharing it to avoid spreading false news.
The rumours of N’na Aldjia's death were quickly dispelled by the foundation and a visit from singer Yasmina, who posted a photo with her on Facebook. N’na Aldjia was found to be in a stable condition, sitting in her wheelchair on the ground floor of the Mozart unit, accompanied by a niece.
Despite being weakened, N’na Aldjia was conscious and able to converse with visitors. She had recently undergone a double operation on her fibula and was recovering well, despite an infection that had set back her progress. Her niece reported that she was expected to stay in the hospital for a few more days to complete her rehabilitation.
During the visit, N’na Aldjia was able to take a short walk outside, enjoying the sunshine, and later visited the hospital cafeteria with her niece. The niece was stopped several times by people who came to inquire about N’na Aldjia's health. According to hospital staff, she was making good progress but would not be able to attend celebrations for her son's anniversary.
The celebrations, which include a seminar at the Mouloud Mammeri University in Tizi-Ouzou, will go ahead as planned. However, N’na Aldjia will not be able to attend due to her ongoing recovery.
