The Algerian province of Khenchela has launched its farming season for 2026-2027, with a target of producing nearly 1.2 million quintals of grain. According to the Khenchela Agricultural Services Director, Tamen Saidi, the province is expected to produce 1,179,819 quintals of grain this season. This includes 626,922 quintals of hard wheat, 153,040 quintals of soft wheat, and 329,942 quintals of barley. The production target is higher than last season's output of 1,067,411 quintals. The province has also provided 34,200 quintals of certified seeds and 5,993 quintals of fertilizer to support farmers.
The province has distributed farm equipment and water wells to local farmers to help them improve their productivity. Governor Harizi visited a farm in the Babaar municipality, which has 200 hectares of land and is equipped with seven deep wells and modern irrigation systems. The farm is expected to produce soft wheat on 180 hectares and barley on 20 hectares.
The province has also distributed land plots to young farmers as part of its agricultural development program. A total of 1,803 plots have been allocated to young people in the region, with each plot measuring 10 hectares. The program aims to support young farmers in developing their agricultural activities and improving their livelihoods.
In addition to the land plots, the province has also provided water wells and irrigation systems to support farmers. A total of 54 water wells are expected to be completed in October, 30 in November, and 22 in December. The province has also established 11 agricultural development zones, covering an area of 57,333 hectares.
