Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has emphasized the importance of preserving citizens' purchasing power and promoting national economic growth. During a recent interview with national press representatives, Tebboune addressed several key issues, including the rise in prices of agricultural products and the country's relations with its partners. He stressed that the preservation of citizens' purchasing power remains a top priority for the state.
Tebboune distinguished between farmers and those responsible for the price hikes, stating that most farmers are not responsible for the current price levels. However, he warned that those who are responsible will be held accountable, as the government must protect citizens' purchasing power. The president also addressed the issue of local officials, stating that the era of "caïds, bachaghas, and aghas" is over, and that some local officials have been suspended.
The Algerian government has allocated 1,200 billion dinars to compensate for losses related to recent fires. Tebboune announced that the state is prepared to increase this amount if necessary. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the national economy, stating that the country aims to reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons and increase its revenues from other sources.
Tebboune expressed confidence in the country's financial prospects, stating that its foreign exchange reserves are expected to remain at a high level by 2031. He emphasized that the government's efforts are focused on promoting economic growth and reducing the country's reliance on hydrocarbons. The president stated that "it's not a question of foreign exchange, but of independence."
The Algerian president also addressed the issue of the oil market, stating that the country will not take any actions that would compromise its interests. He emphasized that Algeria is a responsible state and will not engage in any reckless behavior in the oil market. Tebboune also stated that the country will conform to any consensus reached among concerned countries.
On the international front, Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to maintaining good relations with major powers, while preserving its freedom of decision. He stated that the country will not renounce its friendships with Russia, the United States, or China. The president also addressed the issue of relations with Iran, stating that Iranian President has requested a stopover in Algeria and was welcomed.
Tebboune also addressed the situation in Niger, confirming that Algeria had sent military aircraft to the country to counter a coup attempt. He stated that the attempt occurred while the Nigerien Prime Minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, was in Algiers, which the Algerian government considers a provocation.
