Algerian Minister of Irrigation Lounas Bouzagza chaired a meeting to review the progress of strategic and structural projects overseen by the Algerian Water Corporation. The meeting was attended by central administration officials, the General Manager of the Corporation, and its officials. The focus was on accelerating procedures and completing necessary preparations to launch projects as soon as possible while respecting contractual deadlines and addressing delays in some projects.

The meeting reviewed the status of several ongoing projects and those about to be launched, particularly in the area of long-distance seawater desalination plant connections. Preparations for launching connection projects at the level of all concerned states were discussed, starting from new seawater desalination plants in Tlemcen, Mostaganem, and Chlef, via a network of over 250 km of transfer canals.

The projects aim to support and expand the capacity to supply inland states with drinking water. Several projects were reviewed, including preparations for launching the Tinzawaten project to supply water from the Tanezrouft aquifer, spanning 248 km in In Guezzam province. Another project involves connecting the Kedia Asrdoun system in Bouira province to the seawater desalination plant in Cap Djena, Boumerdes province.

Additional projects include supporting the supply of El Ghoul and northeastern municipalities with water from the Dhiraa Eddis dam. Other projects involve supporting the supply of six municipalities in Mila province and two municipalities in Jijel province, from the Tabloot dam. There are also plans to supply Souk Ahras, Mila, and Oulad Idriss municipalities with water from the Wadi Jdida dam.

The projects also cover the transfer of raw water from the Wadi Jdida dam to the Ain Dlia dam, supplying Satahar municipality with drinking water from the Bousiaba dam in Jijel province, and expanding the Tilsdite dam water treatment plant in Bouira province. Furthermore, new mineral removal plants will be built in Tindouf and In Salah provinces.

Minister Bouzagza emphasized the importance of these projects in enhancing water security and ensuring a continuous water supply across different regions of the country. The implementation of these projects is expected to significantly improve the water supply situation in Algeria.

The Algerian government has been working to improve the country's water infrastructure, addressing issues related to water scarcity and supply. The launch of these strategic projects is a key part of this effort, aiming to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply for the population.
