The Regional Engineering Institution "Hodna" in Oum El Bouaghi, Algeria, is working diligently to meet the deadlines set by public authorities to compensate victims of recent forest fires that occurred in multiple provinces. The institution, one of 11 branches of the Rural Engineering Complex, has been entrusted with providing support to victims in various areas, including compensation for beehives, irrigation equipment, and poultry farms.
According to Technical Director Abdel Karim Sabri, the institution is responsible for compensating victims in 10 provinces, including 6 eastern provinces and 4 western provinces. The provinces affected by the fires include Tarf, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Skikda, Jijel, Annaba, Saida, Mascara, Tlemcen, and Sidi Bel Abbes. The institution is working to provide compensation, including 2900 empty beehives and 1500 beehive equipment.
The institution has made significant progress in providing compensation to victims, including the distribution of 2900 beehives, mostly in Guelma and Skikda, where beehives were severely affected. Additionally, 20 poultry houses have been built, mostly in Skikda and Souk Ahras. The institution has also started repairing animal shelters in Skikda.
In the area of irrigation and agricultural equipment, the institution has provided 35,000 meters of drip irrigation pipes, mostly directed to Jijel, Souk Ahras, Annaba, Mascara, and Skikda. The institution has also provided 35,000 meters of high-pressure irrigation pipes, benefiting farmers in Jijel and Annaba.
Furthermore, the institution has provided 2900 meters of electrical cables, 17 irrigation pumps, and 9 plastic water tanks with capacities of 1000 and 2000 liters. These supplies have been distributed to victims in various provinces, including Saida, Annaba, Souk Ahras, and Jijel.
The institution's efforts have extended to western provinces, where they have provided direct compensation to farmers. In Saida, the institution provided irrigation channels, pumps, and high-pressure irrigation pipes. In Tlemcen and Sidi Bel Abbes, beehives were provided, while in Mascara, 12,000 meters of drip irrigation pipes and 415 meters of electrical cables were supplied.
Notably, the institution manufactures beehives and equipment locally at its workshop in Oum El Bouaghi. The institution plans to start planting fruit trees in affected areas once the planting season begins.
