A high-level Algerian government delegation, led by Minister of State for Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab, on Wednesday attended the official launch ceremony for the construction of port facilities for the phosphate dock in Annaba. The project is part of the integrated phosphate project, which aims to develop Algeria's phosphate resources. The delegation inspected the site and witnessed the piling process, which has seen 910 piles driven out of a total of 1322.
The project involves reclaiming an area of approximately 82 hectares to create the necessary land for the construction of the dock and related facilities. The work includes preparing and strengthening the soil to support the superstructure of the dock. The delegation also inspected the construction of reinforced concrete beams and preparations for the manufacture of pre-fabricated concrete slabs, which will be used to form the superstructure of the dock.
Minister Arkab received a briefing on the progress of the work at various sites, highlighting the importance of close coordination between different sectors and institutions involved in the project. He emphasized the need to accelerate the pace of work, resolve any obstacles, and complete the project within the specified timeframe. The minister also instructed project managers to intensify on-site monitoring and coordination to ensure the rapid resolution of any issues.
The phosphate project is an integrated industrial and logistics complex that links the phosphate mine in Djebel El Hadib (Bir El Ater) to the chemical conversion plant in Oued El Kebrit (Souk Ahras) and the rail network. The project also includes port facilities in Annaba to receive and ship phosphate-based products to national, regional, and international markets.
The government delegation, which included Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure Abdelkader Djellali and Minister of Mines and Mining Industries Mourad Hanifi, began a two-day working visit to the provinces of Annaba, Souk Ahras, Tebessa, and Bir El Ater. The visit aims to monitor the progress of the integrated phosphate project and inspect the construction of various components, including mining, industrial, logistics, and port facilities.
