Algerian Minister of State and Minister of Energy, Mohamed Arkab, held a series of bilateral meetings with heads and representatives of major global energy companies on the sidelines of the 14th NAPAC 2026 conference. The meetings took place at the Mohamed Ben Ahmed Conference Center in Oran from October 5-7. The conference was attended by the President and General Director of Sonatrach, Noor Eddine Daoudi, and other high-ranking officials from the energy sector.
During the meetings, Arkab met with Kanita Thanintha Sartwataiyoo, CEO of Thai company PTTEP, to discuss ways to strengthen and expand cooperation between Sonatrach and PTTEP in the energy sector. The two parties reviewed the current state of cooperation between Sonatrach and PTTEP, particularly in the development and exploitation of the Hassi Bir Rkays field in the Berkine basin.
Arkab also met with Mahmoud Al Hashmi, CEO of OQ, an Omani company for exploration and production, to discuss ways to enhance partnership between Sonatrach and OQ. The discussions focused on areas such as exploration and production of hydrocarbons, petrochemistry, and development of the liquefied natural gas industry.
Additionally, Arkab met with a delegation from Omani company Petrogaz, led by Fahad Al Rashdi, to discuss the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Petrogaz and its Algerian counterparts. The talks centered on cooperation in the search, exploration, and production of oil and gas.
Arkab also held talks with Warren Murdoch, General Manager and CEO of Occidental Petroleum (OXY) in Algeria, to review the prospects for developing the existing partnership between Sonatrach and the American company. The discussions focused on areas such as exploration and production of hydrocarbons, development of fields, and production and transport of natural gas and liquefied natural gas.
The meetings took place within the framework of Algeria's dynamic relations with its international partners in the energy sector. The Algerian energy sector is seeking to attract quality investments, expand existing partnerships, and develop projects with added value.
The meetings also highlighted the importance of training, technology transfer, and capacity building in the energy sector. The Algerian government is seeking to support the presence of Sonatrach in international partnerships and promote the country's energy interests.
