The minister urged local authorities to prioritize natural gas network extensions through communal development plans and establish new butane gas depots in villages without access to natural gas.
Guitouni inspected the Oued El-Berdi butane gas filling center and the Bouira GPL-C Naftal conversion center. The Oued El-Berdi center produces 19,000 butane gas cylinders daily, delivering 10,000 units per day. The minister discussed recent measures to address the high demand for butane gas during the cold season. He also inaugurated the new SDC headquarters in Aïn-Bessem, serving over 50,000 customers in the surrounding communes.
The minister expressed optimism about the 2019 oil prices, predicting a potential increase to $75 per barrel due to reduced international political tensions. He confirmed Algeria's commitment to OPEP initiatives and its adherence to agreements with member countries. Guitouni also announced plans to export electricity to Spain, with discussions underway to resolve tax issues.
The export of electricity to Spain is expected to boost Sonelgaz's investments and reduce reliance on state support. Guitouni emphasized the need to utilize Algeria's 20,000 MW electricity capacity, currently under-exploited.
