Algerian Education Minister Mohamed Seghir Saadaoui officially launched the 2026-2027 school year from Jijel, highlighting the importance of health and innovation in education. During a press conference at Ecole du Martyr Belaoura Rabah, Saadaoui explained that concerted efforts from various government sectors have led to the rehabilitation of educational institutions damaged by fires in affected regions. These institutions have not only been restored but also upgraded with new infrastructure.
Saadaoui emphasized that the government's efforts include psychological support for students, provided by specialists from the Education sector as well as other relevant sectors. He expressed confidence that students in Jijel and the broader educational community will maintain their high standards, given the region's impressive performance in national exams. The minister also outlined key innovations for the new school year, including the second edition of the national school innovation competition and the national inter-high school competition.
The minister reported a high level of satisfaction among parents regarding preparations for the new school year, particularly with the availability of textbooks. He noted that significant efforts have been made to ensure sufficient distribution of textbooks to educational institutions before the start of the school year. Additionally, school supplies have been made available, leveraging national production.
Saadaoui and his delegation attended an inaugural lesson for primary school students titled "The Relationship Between Trees and Human Health." The minister stressed the Education sector's commitment to raising awareness among students about various health aspects. He highlighted that promoting student health is crucial for preserving the future of future generations.
The minister explained that the goal of these educational activities is to instill a health culture in students, enabling them to understand the significance of healthy practices, particularly through learning about balanced nutrition. He mentioned that doctors, as part of the National School Health Week, will educate students about healthy eating and general health.
As students returned to schools nationwide, the atmosphere was lively. Over 12 million students joined more than 30,000 educational institutions, marking a significant collective return to education. For young children starting school, emotions ran high as they took their first steps into academic life, accompanied by their parents.
