A delegation comprising elected officials from the Tizi-Ouzou Provincial Assembly and directors of various sectors visited the commune of Tigzirt to inspect several ongoing projects. The delegation, led by the president of the Provincial Assembly, included directors of public works, hydraulics, tourism, and the National Office for the Promotion of Handicrafts. The visit aimed to assess the progress of various projects in the area.
The delegation began by inspecting the new town hall, which is nearing completion. The building features a Berber-Roman style decoration and is expected to cost 10 billion centimes upon completion. The project is 80% complete, with the officials expressing satisfaction with the progress made so far. The new town hall is expected to be a flagship project for the commune and the province.
The delegation then visited the site of the repair works for the damage caused by the November 2018 storms at Tassalast beach. They also inspected the construction site of an open-air theater and the location that will host the "Les belles nuits de Tigzirt" festival. The officials were briefed on the progress of these projects and discussed potential challenges and solutions.
The officials also visited a wild dump site in the middle of the city, two sports halls, the communal stadium, and a semi-olympic swimming pool. The swimming pool is nearly complete, with the works exceeding 85% completion. The sports facilities are expected to provide much-needed infrastructure for the local residents.
During a press briefing, the president of the Provincial Assembly highlighted the importance of the projects being implemented in Tigzirt. He emphasized that the open-air theater, which will have a capacity of over 5,000 seats, will be a major boost to the local tourism and cultural scene. The assembly has allocated an additional 5 million dinars to complete the project.
The delegation also discussed the issue of water scarcity in Tigzirt, with the president of the Provincial Assembly stating that the current water supply is insufficient to meet the demands of the growing population. A new desalination plant is being planned to address this issue, with a target capacity of 2,500m3/day. The current plant, which has a capacity of 2,500m3/day, is only producing 600m3/day due to partial rehabilitation.
The president of the Provincial Assembly also called for increased investment in waste management, citing the need for a large incinerator to address the waste disposal issue. He emphasized that this is a public health issue and requires urgent attention. The delegation's visit highlighted the efforts being made to develop the commune of Tigzirt and address the needs of its residents.
