Algerian authorities have dealt significant blows to transnational drug cartels operating in Morocco, Libya, and the Sahel region. In the past three days, combined detachments of the Algerian People's National Army (ANP) and the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) have made several seizures. The operations targeted drug trafficking networks, resulting in the confiscation of large quantities of narcotics.

In Béchar, combined detachments of the ANP foiled two attempts to smuggle a significant quantity of drugs into the country. The seizures included 1,660 kilograms of treated kif and three pairs of daytime binoculars. One narcotrafficker was killed during the operation, which took place in the 3rd Military Region. The Ministry of National Defense (MDN) reported that the operations were part of efforts to secure borders and combat smuggling and organized crime.

In another operation, ANP detachments in the 6th Military Region of Tamanrasset eliminated one narcotrafficker and arrested four others. The forces also seized over 80 kilograms of cocaine. The operation, which occurred on September 30, 2026, involved a qualitative operation in the territory of the Tamanrasset military sector. Three utility vehicles were used to transport the narcotics.

The ANP also recovered a FMPK machine gun, a Kalashnikov submachine gun, a significant quantity of ammunition, and four mobile phones. These seizures were part of ongoing efforts to combat narcotrafficking and organized crime in the region. The operations demonstrate the Algerian authorities' commitment to securing their borders and disrupting transnational crime networks.

In a separate operation, the Algiers wilaya security services dismantled a transnational criminal network comprising 11 traffickers. The network was involved in the trafficking of nearly two million pregabalin pills. Authorities also recovered 636 motorcycles obtained through money laundering. The seizures had an estimated market value of nearly 250 billion centimes.

The DGSN reported that the pregabalin pills and motorcycles were seized after a four-month investigation. The operation highlights the authorities' efforts to combat organized crime and disrupt financial networks used for money laundering. The seizures also underscore the significant threat posed by transnational crime networks in the region.

The Algerian authorities' recent operations demonstrate their continued efforts to combat narcotrafficking and organized crime. The seizures of large quantities of narcotics and the dismantling of a transnational crime network are significant achievements in the fight against crime. The authorities remain committed to securing their borders and disrupting crime networks.
