Algerian authorities, led by Wali Abdelhakim Chater and President of the Provincial Assembly Youcef Aouchiche, recently conducted a working visit to the commune of Aghribs. The visit aimed to inspect two significant investment projects in the region. The first project involves the construction of a production unit for terra cotta products, including floor tiles, roofing tiles, and ventilated facades. This project is expected to cost around 200 billion centimes and create approximately 135 direct jobs by 2020.
The second unit of the project is anticipated to generate an additional 150 jobs. Furthermore, the same investor is planning to establish a second project, a manufacturing unit for professional kitchen equipment and stainless steel tanks, valued at 80 billion centimes. This project is expected to create 150 jobs. During their discussions with investors, Wali Chater emphasized the importance of recruiting local personnel for these projects. He also stressed the need for the projects to be equipped with renewable energy sources to ensure their autonomy.
The two projects are situated in a newly created 18-hectare industrial zone. Aghribs is classified as an area to be promoted within the province of Tizi-Ouzou, according to Wali Chater. He noted that the commune lacks job and wealth creation projects. The Wali also addressed the issue of citizens who have built homes in anticipation of rural housing aid. Around 70 individuals have been processed through the control file, and the previous assembly had promised to settle their cases once the commune received a rural housing quota.
Wali Chater expressed regret over the situation, describing it as a "monumental error." He proposed prioritizing these individuals once quotas are allocated to the commune. The citizens also raised concerns about damages caused by recent storms. The Wali instructed the district chief to have the cases studied by the district commission. Youcef Aouchiche, President of the Provincial Assembly, recalled that Aghribs had benefited from funds allocated for storm damages.
The delegation then proceeded to the commune of Azazga, where they visited a school for children with special needs, including autistic and trisomic children. Currently, the school can accommodate only 20 children. The owner requested permission to increase the capacity to 100, citing the need for a Protection Civil unit to ensure the structure's security. Wali Chater pledged to make every effort to enable the school to benefit as many children as possible.
The Wali and the President of the Provincial Assembly then inspected a landslide site in Azazga, assessing the progress of ongoing work. This visit highlights the authorities' efforts to address local concerns and promote development in the region. The commune of Azazga faces challenges related to infrastructure and social services, which the authorities seem committed to addressing.
