A terrorist armed with a Kalachnikov pistol-machine gun was killed by an Algerian National People's Army (ANP) detachment in Azazga, Tizi-Ouzou province, on May 12, 2019, according to a Ministry of National Defense (MDN) communiqué. The operation took place in the Zraïb locality near Yakouren, and the terrorist was killed in an ambush. The ANP also recovered a Kalachnikov pistol-machine gun, two ammunition clips, and a pair of binoculars.

The MDN stated that the operation is part of the ANP's ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorism and ensure security and peace across the country. The ANP has been actively engaged in combating terrorism, and this operation demonstrates its continued commitment to this effort. The terrorist killed in Azazga was not identified, but the MDN provided details about the recovered arms and equipment.

In a related operation, the ANP identified one of the two terrorists killed on May 11, 2019, in Boumerdès province. The terrorist, identified as Masrour Rachid alias Khatab, had joined terrorist groups in 2008. The identification process for the second terrorist is ongoing. The ANP had killed the two terrorists in an operation near Dellys, recovering a Kalachnikov pistol-machine gun, ammunition, and a grenade.

The ANP also conducted a search and sweep operation in Oued El K'sab, Aïn Defla province, discovering and destroying seven terrorist casemates, an explosive manufacturing workshop, a homemade bomb, detonation tools, and other equipment. The operation yielded significant results, highlighting the ANP's efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent attacks.

In addition to counter-terrorism operations, the ANP and other security agencies have been working to combat contraband and organized crime. In Tamanrasset and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, ANP detachments arrested eight gold prospectors and seized gold prospecting equipment. In Oum El Bouaghi, ANP and Gendarmerie nationale elements intercepted two individuals with 1,500 cartridges of ammunition.

The ANP and coast guards have also been working to prevent clandestine emigration. In Oran, coast guards foiled an attempt by 18 people to emigrate clandestinely on a homemade boat. In Tlemcen and Tamanrasset, authorities intercepted 63 and 14 clandestine immigrants of various nationalities, respectively. These operations demonstrate the Algerian authorities' efforts to secure the country's borders and prevent irregular migration.

The MDN communiqué highlights the ANP's continued commitment to ensuring security and stability in Algeria. The various operations conducted by the ANP and other security agencies demonstrate the authorities' efforts to address multiple security challenges, including terrorism, contraband, and emigration. The results of these operations underscore the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation among security agencies to maintain peace and security in the region.
