Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries Sid-Ali Khaldi officially launched the 2026-2027 labours-semailles campaign in the Tiaret province on November 3, 2026. The event took place at the Si-Abdelkrim agricultural production unit in Sebaïne commune. During the launch, Khaldi stressed the importance of providing farmers with necessary inputs such as treated seeds, fertilizers, and equipment to ensure a successful campaign.

The Tiaret province's labours-semailles campaign covers a total area of 300,000 hectares. This includes 120,000 hectares dedicated to durum wheat, 20,000 hectares to soft wheat, 156,000 hectares to barley, and 4,000 hectares to oats. According to Boualem Mekhaneg, Director of Agricultural Services, 98,000 quintals of seeds and 25,000 quintals of fertilizers have been made available to cereal farmers.

A range of machinery has been mobilized to support the campaign, including 2,566 tractors, 3,717 plows, and a significant number of seed drills. Khaldi also visited the Regional Technical Institute for Large Crops in Sebaïne, which has successfully produced base seeds adapted to the region's climate conditions for cereal multipliers.

During his visit, Khaldi laid the foundation stone for a strategic grain storage silo with a capacity of one million quintals. The minister is also set to sign two agreements: one with the sectors of Agriculture, Education, and Vocational Training on agricultural training, and another with Ibn Khaldoun University to strengthen cooperation between the two sectors.

The visit will also include the inauguration of an agricultural electricity connection project at a private farm and a trip to the Chaouchaoua equestrian center in the provincial capital. Khaldi's program aims to boost agricultural productivity and development in the region.

The labours-semailles campaign is a critical component of Algeria's agricultural strategy. By ensuring the availability of essential inputs and modern machinery, the government aims to enhance crop yields and food security. The campaign's success is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and farmers' livelihoods.

Algeria's efforts to improve its agricultural sector are ongoing, with a focus on increasing domestic production and reducing reliance on imports. The launch of the 2026-2027 labours-semailles campaign marks a significant step towards achieving these goals, with the government committed to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
