Algerian Agriculture Minister Sid Ali Khaldi, accompanied by Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Policy Marianne Sivertsen Næss, officially opened the "Algeria Day" event in Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday. This event was held on the eve of the 15th Scandinavian-African Economic Summit, where Algeria is participating as a special guest of honor. Khaldi expressed his hope that "Algeria Day" would mark the beginning of a promising and continuous path of cooperation and partnership between the two friendly countries.
In his opening speech, Khaldi emphasized that Algeria's selection as a special guest of honor at the summit reflects the trust and respect that Algeria enjoys from the Kingdom of Norway. He highlighted the shared desire to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the two countries and elevate it to broader horizons. Khaldi also noted the significant momentum in bilateral relations on the political and diplomatic levels, which is reflected in high-level visits and regular consultations.
Khaldi took the opportunity to recall the strategic importance that Algeria attaches to the agricultural sector, which enjoys special attention from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He considers it a fundamental pillar for achieving food security and a key driver for diversifying the national economy. In this context, Khaldi invited Norwegian investors to seize the available partnership opportunities in Algeria, particularly in light of the reforms aimed at improving the business climate.
As part of the event's program, Khaldi and his Norwegian counterpart inaugurated an exhibition of Algerian products and signed a memorandum of understanding between the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Oslo Chamber of Commerce. This aims to provide an institutional framework for bringing together business leaders from both countries. Algeria is participating in the event with a multi-sectoral delegation and representatives from various institutions.
Khaldi also met with his Norwegian counterpart, Marianne Sivertsen Næss, on the sidelines of the "Algeria Day" event. They discussed ways to develop bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture, particularly in sustainable management of fish resources, modernization of infrastructure and equipment, and processing of seafood products. Both parties expressed their readiness to explore partnership and investment opportunities in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
The two ministers also emphasized their willingness to continue consultations, exchange expertise, and enhance scientific and technical cooperation and training. They encouraged partnerships between scientific institutions and economic operators in both countries, in line with the ongoing dynamic in relations between Algeria and Norway. Khaldi was mandated by President Tebboune to participate in the 15th Scandinavian-African Economic Summit.
The "Algeria Day" event aims to showcase Algeria's economic and cultural potential and promote investment and partnership opportunities in several strategic sectors. Khaldi's visit to Norway reflects Algeria's commitment to strengthening economic ties with other countries and promoting its investment opportunities.
