Algeria's Minister of Youth, Moustafa Hidaoui, has announced the upcoming launch of a new program aimed at structuring youth volunteering across the country. The program, called "Daam," seeks to organize and support young volunteers at the local level, enabling them to become active participants and initiators of community projects. This initiative was revealed during Hidaoui's working visit to the wilaya of Jijel, where he met with young people engaged in solidarity efforts following recent wildfires.
The "Daam" program is designed to help young people move from occasional mobilization to organized participation in their communities. Hidaoui emphasized the importance of empowering young people to become actors and initiators of projects in their environment and society. The minister made this announcement at the National Youth Center for Volunteering and Support in Jijel, which has hosted over 1,500 young people from various regions of the country since its establishment over a month ago.
The National Youth Center for Volunteering and Support in Jijel was set up as part of the "Daam" initiative and has been instrumental in coordinating solidarity efforts following the wildfires. Hidaoui praised the young people's mobilization, highlighting the "honorable images of solidarity, cohesion, and service to the nation" they have demonstrated. The center has provided a platform for young people to come together and support affected families.
As part of his visit, Hidaoui also inaugurated the renovated and equipped "Moudjahid Defunt Brihoum Youcef" youth house in Jijel. He called for increasing the attractiveness of such establishments and diversifying their activities to better meet young people's expectations. The minister recommended introducing sustainable educational, pedagogical, and scientific programs to encourage young people's participation and strengthen their skills.
The youth house, located near several natural and tourist sites in Jijel, offers opportunities for development. Hidaoui suggested leveraging this infrastructure to promote youth tourism and create a welcoming space for young people from across the country. This initiative aims to increase youth engagement and participation in community activities.
During his visit, Hidaoui also opened the "Moudjahid Roula El Hadi" sports and recreational complex in Jijel's Bourmel area. This new facility enhances local services for young people, providing spaces for sports and leisure activities. The complex is expected to become a hub for youth activities and community engagement.
The "Daam" program will be based at the "Jawab" youth camp in Médéa, which will serve as the national center for coordinating local initiatives and supporting youth volunteers nationwide. The program aims to structure and support youth volunteering, enabling young people to become active participants in their communities and contribute to the country's development.
