The Port of Djen Djen in Jijel is also expanding, with a current capacity to handle over 10,000 containers and a target of 20,000 containers. This increase in capacity will solidify the port's logistics role and enhance its contribution to maritime trade.
In addition to increasing capacity, the modernization plan includes the electrification of port quays to reduce pollution and promote cleaner energy. The ports of Algiers and Mostaganem will be the first to implement this initiative, allowing ships to use onshore power instead of running their engines while docked.
A comprehensive strategy is being implemented to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of Algerian ports. This includes adapting infrastructure to meet national economic needs, enhancing regional integration, and developing skills through a new training center in Mostaganem.
