Algeria and Spain have signed two agreements to cooperate on the supply of red meat, particularly in preparation for Ramadan 2027. The agreements were signed in Algiers on Monday between Algerian and Spanish entities. The first agreement was signed between the Algerian Red Meat Company "Alviar" and the Spanish professional organizations "Antrofic" and "Provacuno". The second agreement was signed between the National Union of Red Meat Importers and the same Spanish organizations.

The agreements aim to strengthen the exchange of information, expertise, and improve animal breeds and logistics services. According to Mohamed Rezki, CEO of Alviar, the agreements will help to ensure a stable supply of red meat during Ramadan. Rezki emphasized that the Algerian government, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has taken measures to meet the demand for red meat during the holy month.

The National Union of Red Meat Importers has been preparing for Ramadan for about six months. Sufian Bahbou, spokesperson for the union, stated that all necessary quantities of red meat will be imported to avoid any shortages. Bahbou highlighted the importance of the partnership with Spanish operators, which will contribute to strengthening their presence in Algeria.

The partnership will also focus on modernizing slaughterhouses and developing intensive cattle farming in the southern region of Algeria. Bahbou emphasized that the collaboration will provide technology and expertise to improve the production of red meat in Algeria.

Spanish Ambassador to Algeria, Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller, expressed his country's desire to go beyond the stage of commercial exchanges with Algeria. Bachiller emphasized that Spain is looking to develop sustainable bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector, as it is the main supplier of red meat to Algeria.

The economic and commercial counselor at the Spanish Embassy, Cristina E Olazabal Valenti, highlighted Algeria's importance as a major market for Spanish beef exports outside the European Union. Valenti noted that Algeria is the main destination for Spanish beef exports outside the EU.

The meeting concluded with bilateral meetings between Algerian and Spanish economic operators to discuss opportunities for cooperation and partnership in the red meat sector. The agreements are expected to strengthen trade relations between Algeria and Spain and ensure a stable supply of red meat in Algeria.
