Algeria has signed two new agreements with Spain to enhance its red meat sector. The agreements were signed on October 5 in Algiers, under the theme "Unite Markets, Strengthen the Sector", with the participation of companies and interprofessional organizations from both countries. The deals aim to improve the supply of red meat to the market in preparation for the Ramadan month and to exchange expertise to boost the local sector.

The first agreement was concluded between ALVIAR, a public company and subsidiary of the AGROLOG group, and INTEROVIC and PROVACUNO, two Spanish interprofessional organizations. The agreement is a framework convention that aims to promote the exchange of information and experiences, improve animal breeds, and cooperate in logistics. Mohamed Rezgui, CEO of ALVIAR, stated that the agreement will help improve the performance of the red meat sector.

The second agreement was signed between the same Spanish organizations and the National Syndicate of Red Meat Importers. Sofiane Bahbou, spokesperson for the syndicate, emphasized that preparations for supplying the market during the Ramadan month have begun, about six months in advance. He assured that all necessary quantities will be imported to avoid any shortages.

The partnership with Spanish operators goes beyond market supply, aiming to encourage their investment in Algeria, particularly in modernizing slaughterhouses and developing intensive livestock farming in the south. This will be achieved through the transfer of technology and expertise. The Spanish ambassador to Algeria, Ramiro Fernandez Bachiller, expressed his desire to go beyond commercial exchanges and develop a sustainable bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector.

Algeria is an important market for the Spanish red meat sector, being the first destination outside the European Union for Spanish beef exports. Cristina Olazabal Valiente, economic and commercial counselor of the Spanish Embassy in Algeria, highlighted the significance of the Algerian market for Spanish red meat exports.

The agreements are part of Algeria's efforts to improve the performance of its red meat sector. The country is seeking to increase its imports of red meat and to develop its local sector through partnerships with foreign companies. The agreements will help to meet the demand for red meat during the Ramadan month and to improve the overall supply of meat to the market.

The Algerian government has taken measures to ensure the supply of red meat during the Ramadan month, in coordination with the Ministry of Trade. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed the authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure the availability of red meat during the holy month. The import of 3.5 million tires during the first quarter of 2027 was also announced recently.
