Vehicles between 3 and 6 years old were charged between 1,500 and 6,000 DA, and those under 3 years old were charged between 2,000 and 10,000 DA.
Certain vehicles are exempt from paying the automobile vignette, including those with special registration plates belonging to the state and local authorities, as well as vehicles with diplomatic or consular privileges. Additionally, ambulances, vehicles equipped with medical equipment, firefighting vehicles, vehicles for people with disabilities, and vehicles using GPL/C fuel are also exempt.
Other vehicles that are not subject to the automobile vignette include tractors and agricultural machinery, vehicles with fewer than four wheels (such as motorcycles and bicycles), public works vehicles, and trailers. The automobile vignette has been in place in Algeria since 1998, with 20% of its revenue going to the Treasury and 80% to the Common Fund of Local Collectivities.
