Algerian Minister of State for Energy, Mohamed Arkab, met with Senegalese Energy and Petroleum Minister, Hadi Abdourahmane Diouf, in Algiers to discuss cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector. The meeting was attended by Senegal's ambassador to Algeria, Mbabba Koura Ndiaye, and several officials from both countries. The ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in exploration, production, field development, refining, and petrochemicals. They emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between Algeria's state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, and Senegal's national oil company, Petrosen. The two countries have signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding that can serve as a foundation for future cooperation.
The talks also focused on supporting training and knowledge transfer, particularly between Algeria's Institute of Petroleum and Sonatrach's Management Academy, and Senegal's specialized institutions. This cooperation aims to develop capacities and support Senegalese cadres in the hydrocarbons sector, particularly in areas such as regulatory frameworks, data management, and industrial safety.
Minister Arkab emphasized that Algeria, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's directives, attaches great importance to promoting African cooperation and partnerships. He stressed the need for increased coordination between African countries, particularly within the African Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries (APPO), to optimize resource utilization and achieve energy security.
Minister Diouf expressed Senegal's interest in benefiting from Algeria's expertise in exploration, production, and refining. He praised the high efficiency of Algerian human resources and the technical expertise of national institutions, particularly Sonatrach. Diouf also emphasized Senegal's desire to expand joint investments with Algeria in areas that can generate added value for both countries.
