The Algerian province of Khenchela has bolstered its urban and semi-urban transport fleet with 14 new buses, each with a capacity of 159 seats. This development aims to facilitate citizens' commutes while enhancing safety and meeting the growing demand for public transportation. The new buses were officially put into service on Saturday, October 10, 2026, by Khenchela Governor, Slim Harizi.

The new buses comprise five "Heiger" buses with a capacity of 100 seats, five "Heiger" buses with 35 seats, and four "Mercedes" buses with 24 seats. This upgrade is in line with a presidential decree to renew the national transport fleet and was carried out under the direct supervision of the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saoud.

The new buses are equipped with modern technologies and safety features, aligning with international standards. This development is part of a broader effort to improve public transportation services in Khenchela and enhance the overall travel experience for citizens. The buses will significantly contribute to improving safety, security, and comfort for passengers using urban and semi-urban transport services.

The introduction of these new buses follows the recent allocation of exploitation licenses for three new buses to private operators. This move is part of a financing agreement with a bank, coordinated with local authorities, the transport directorate, and the bank, as well as the Tirsam company. These efforts reflect the government's commitment to renewing the road transport fleet and enhancing public transportation services.

In a related development, the Khenchela Transport Directorate has announced a temporary consultation for a geotechnical study on a project to build three "C" class bus stations in the municipalities of Ain El-Touila, Babar, and Oulad Racha. This project aims to improve the overall transport infrastructure in the region and provide better services to citizens.

The Khenchela Transport Directorate continues its awareness campaign to educate road users about the new traffic law (09/26) and its provisions. The campaign, which involves security services and various sectors, aims to promote road safety and prevent accidents. Field teams are informing road users about the importance of adhering to the new law and avoiding infractions that can lead to material and physical harm.

The introduction of the new buses and ongoing efforts to improve public transportation in Khenchela reflect the government's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for citizens. By investing in modern and safe transportation systems, the authorities aim to meet the growing demands of the population and provide better services for the community.
