The Algerian delegation, led by Mohamed Arab Slaimani, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Nation, showcased Algeria's experience in promoting good governance at the 153rd Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union in Arusha, Tanzania. Slaimani emphasized that Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has established a strong foundation of trust between citizens and state institutions through free and fair elections.

Slaimani highlighted Algeria's commitment to participatory democracy, where citizens can directly observe the quality of institutional performance through their elected representatives in parliament and local councils. He stressed that Algeria's institutional system is designed to promote and stimulate popular participation, citing initiatives such as the National Observatory for Civil Society, the High Council for Youth, and the Mediator of the Republic.

The Algerian delegation emphasized the role of parliament in consolidating citizen participation, particularly through the adoption of pioneering laws to integrate young people into political life. This has led to a significant increase in youth representation in the lower house of parliament, including the election of a woman as head of the lower house for the first time in Algerian history.

At the international level, Slaimani called for a broader parliamentary perspective to promote equal opportunities for all peoples. He urged the fight against selectivity in dealing with crucial issues and the activation of sanctions against countries that fuel conflicts, sponsor terrorism, and spread hate.

Slaimani also emphasized the importance of good governance in resolving long-standing conflicts, including the Palestinian issue and the Western Sahara dispute. He stressed that the international community must work towards establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and grant the Sahrawi people the right to self-determination.

The 153rd Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union provided a platform for Algeria to share its experiences and best practices in promoting good governance and participatory democracy. The event brought together parliamentarians from around the world to discuss pressing global issues and promote cooperation and understanding.

The Algerian delegation's participation in the assembly reflects the country's commitment to international cooperation and its desire to contribute to global efforts to promote democracy, human rights, and good governance.
