Algerian Chief of Staff, First Lieutenant Said Chengriha, has stressed that the country's security is inextricably linked to that of its Sahel region neighbors. During a visit to the Third Military Region in Bechar on Saturday, Chengriha said Algeria has always been a stabilizing factor in the region, thanks to its commitment to upholding brotherhood, solidarity, and good neighborliness. He emphasized that the country's approach to regional challenges is rooted in its conviction that security and development are closely intertwined.

Chengriha highlighted Algeria's efforts to support its Sahel region neighbors economically, developmentally, and militarily. He noted that these efforts reflect the country's understanding that the security of these nations is an extension of its own national security. The Chief of Staff emphasized that Algeria does not view Sahel region crises as an external issue, but rather as a partner that recognizes the stability of neighboring countries is a prerequisite for its own stability.

Chengriha also emphasized that comprehensive development is the best way to protect the region's populations from the risks of terrorism, extremism, and related crimes. He pointed out that Algeria's approach is reflected in the launch of structuring and promising projects aimed at strengthening shared infrastructure and contributing to the provision of new development opportunities. These efforts, he said, support regional stability and enhance the ability of Sahel region countries to face security and economic challenges.

During his visit, Chengriha began by paying a visit to the headquarters of the Third Military Region in Bechar, where he was received by the region's commander, Major General Nasser Eddine Fodil. He then paid his respects to the memory of the late hero, Mustafa Ben Boulaïd, at the memorial monument in his honor. Chengriha laid a wreath of flowers and recited the opening verse of the Quran in memory of his soul and those of all the martyrs.

Chengriha's visit also included a meeting with the region's cadres and employees, during which he listened to their concerns and proposals. The attendees reaffirmed their determination to continue making efforts to carry out their assigned tasks, particularly with regard to securing the borders and protecting the national territory from various potential threats and scourges.

The Chief of Staff's statements reflect Algeria's commitment to regional security and stability. His visit to the Third Military Region in Bechar underscores the country's focus on addressing regional challenges through a combination of security and development initiatives. By emphasizing the interconnectedness of security and development, Chengriha highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the complex challenges facing the Sahel region.

The region has faced numerous security challenges in recent years, including terrorism and extremist groups. Algeria's efforts to support its neighbors in the region are seen as crucial to addressing these challenges. By emphasizing the importance of regional stability, Chengriha reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to playing a key role in promoting security and development in the Sahel region.
