Algerian Minister of State, Ahmed Attaf, addressed the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, reaffirming Algeria's commitment to supporting the Sahel region. The Algerian minister also touched on the situation in Libya, which has been in crisis for 16 years. He considered that the prolonged crisis in Libya is another example of how extended conflicts cannot be resolved through deepening divisions, but rather through dialogue, reconciliation, and the unification of institutions. Attaf reaffirmed Algeria's support for a peaceful, comprehensive, and inclusive political solution led by the Libyans themselves.
Attaf emphasized that Algeria believes that ending foreign interference in Libya's internal affairs is essential to creating the conditions for a lasting resolution to the crisis. He also expressed Algeria's support for the legitimate authorities in Yemen and Sudan, which are striving to respond to the aspirations of their populations for security, stability, and unity.
The minister highlighted the interconnection between peace, development, and security, noting that it is impossible to build peace without development, and that development cannot be revived without security and stability. He emphasized that Algeria, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has chosen to be a proactive player in global transformations, rather than simply a recipient.
Attaf also mentioned that Algeria has made sustainable development a national priority, enshrined in its constitution since 2020. He emphasized that Algeria's vision is based on social justice, economic sustainability, and environmental protection, with a clear and unwavering commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left behind in the national development process.
Finally, Attaf called for a balanced and responsible global order regarding artificial intelligence, ensuring that its benefits are accessible to all, while preserving national sovereignty and making this revolution a shared opportunity, rather than a privilege reserved for a few.
