Algeria's Minister of State for Energy, Mohamed Arkab, has expressed his country's unwavering support for the Organization of African Petroleum Producing Countries (APPO) and its initiatives to promote the continent's natural resources. He made these remarks during a meeting with APPO's Secretary General, Fired Ghazali, who is on a working visit to Algeria to participate in the 14th edition of the Africa Energy and Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (NAPEC 2026).

The meeting, which was attended by the President and General Manager of the Sonatrach Group, Noureddine Dahoudi, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Algeria and APPO in the oil and gas sector. They also reviewed the current state of international energy markets and the prospects for African partnerships in the face of global energy sector transformations.

Minister Arkab emphasized Algeria's commitment to supporting APPO's objectives, which aim to enable the continent to harness its natural resources effectively and fairly. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of promoting local content in African oil and gas industries to support economic integration and sustainable development.

The Secretary General of APPO, Fired Ghazali, expressed his gratitude to Algeria for its continued support for the organization's objectives. He praised Algeria's role in training and developing human resources, as well as promoting research and innovation in the energy sector. Ghazali also highlighted the significance of oil and gas in supporting development in Africa and promoting the continent's energy sovereignty.
