The Algerian economy is set to explore new cooperation opportunities with Tanzania. A high-level Algerian delegation, including representatives from the National Pharmaceutical Products Authority and the Saidal Group, will soon visit Tanzania. This visit, invited by the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority, aims to discover potential cooperation opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector.
Tanzanian Ambassador to Algeria, Mobehar Holms Matini, highlighted the promising investment opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation and establish a new partnership between the two countries. During a press conference at the embassy, Matini reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation, emphasizing the existence of "promising prospects" for expanding trade and strengthening this cooperation.
Algeria is currently Africa's largest producer of pharmaceutical products, according to Matini. He recently discussed implementing the previously signed agreement in this field with Algerian Pharmaceutical Industry Minister, Wassim Qouideri. This discussion indicates a strong foundation for future collaboration between the two nations in the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to pharmaceuticals, Matini mentioned cooperation in other vital sectors, such as agriculture, energy, tourism, and higher education. He noted that Tanzania is among the world's top five producers of cashew nuts and invited Algerian investors to explore cooperation opportunities with their Tanzanian counterparts in agricultural product trade.
The cooperation between Algeria and Tanzania extends to the energy sector. A delegation from the Tanzanian Electricity Supply Company visited Algeria in July to learn about the country's developments in this sector, exchange experiences, and establish cooperative relationships. Algeria's expertise in energy is recognized by the Tanzanian government.
In the field of higher education, Matini recalled Algeria's decision to grant 176 university scholarships to Tanzanian students. He also announced that 150 top students from Tanzanian secondary schools have registered for the Algerian scholarship program for the 2026-2027 academic year, taking advantage of Algeria's high-quality education that meets international standards.
The two countries are exploring ways to strengthen their partnership. With Algeria's position as Africa's largest pharmaceutical product producer and Tanzania's significant agricultural production, there are opportunities for mutually beneficial trade and cooperation.
