The National Organization of Transporters in Algeria has put forward a formal proposal to the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport. The suggestion aims to support transporters who have received checks from banks to purchase new buses with 50 seats in the near future. This development was announced by Hussein Bougaba, head of the National Organization of Transporters, during a meeting with the Transport Director at the Ministry.
According to Bougaba, approximately 100 transporters are waiting for their turn to obtain new buses with a capacity of 100 seats. These transporters have completed all banking procedures and benefited from loans. However, the depletion of large-capacity buses has prevented them from cashing their checks. This issue led Bougaba to seek assistance from the Ministry and meet with the Central Transport Director.
Bougaba proposed converting the requests of transporters wishing to acquire 100-seat buses to 50-seat buses. The Transport Director welcomed this proposal and pledged to study it. This initiative comes as a relief to transporters facing difficulties in obtaining new buses. The National Organization of Transporters is working closely with the Ministry to address these challenges.
Since the first import operations of buses from abroad by the authorities, over 2,000 transporters have benefited from new buses. This development follows a directive from the President of the Republic to import 10,000 buses to replace old and dilapidated ones. The move aims to improve public transport and reduce the number of accidents.
The implementation of a new regulation making fire extinguishers compulsory in vehicles has been postponed due to a shortage of this equipment. According to Bougaba, the authorities have decided to delay the enforcement of this rule until further notice. This decision is intended to give vehicle owners sufficient time to acquire the necessary equipment.
The National Organization of Transporters continues to work with the Ministry to address the challenges facing the transport sector. The organization is committed to finding solutions to the problems affecting transporters and improving the overall quality of public transport in Algeria. The authorities are expected to announce further measures to support the sector.
The Algerian government has been taking steps to modernize the country's transport infrastructure and improve road safety. The importation of new buses is part of a broader strategy to upgrade the public transport system. The authorities are also working to enhance the skills of transporters and drivers to ensure a safer and more efficient service.
