The 2026 Arcif report, released in Amman, Jordan, has ranked Algeria first among Arab countries in scientific research. The report, which evaluates the impact and citations of Arabic scientific journals, found that Algeria has 425 accredited journals, surpassing Egypt's 381 journals, Iraq's 135 journals, Saudi Arabia's 73 journals, and Jordan's 45 journals. This achievement demonstrates Algeria's leadership in the Arab scientific publishing landscape.

Algeria also leads in the number of authors whose work has been cited. The report identified 31,554 Algerian authors whose work has been cited, accounting for 23.4% of all cited Arab authors. This puts Algeria ahead of Egypt, with 29,127 cited authors, Iraq, with 24,621, Saudi Arabia, with 13,181, and Jordan, with 7,122. The report highlights the significant contribution of Algerian researchers to the Arab scientific community.

The Arcif report is based on a comprehensive review of over 1.07 million Arabic scientific papers and articles, authored by 413,000 Arab researchers. The report found that over 135,000 Arab authors have been cited, representing 32.57% of all authors included in the report. This data provides valuable insights into the productivity and impact of Arab researchers.

The report also evaluated over 5,600 Arabic scientific journals, published by more than 2,600 research institutions. Only 1,303 journals met the 32 criteria set by Arcif, which are aligned with international impact factor standards. This rigorous evaluation process ensures the credibility and reliability of the report's findings.

Since the first report was launched in 2016, significant growth has been recorded. The number of accredited journals has increased by 379%, while the number of articles reviewed has risen by 978%. The number of cited Arab authors has jumped by 8,282%, and the number of references and citations reviewed has exceeded 30 million, representing a 979% increase.

Sami Al-Khazandar, head of the Arcif initiative, stated that the report's findings reflect the reality of Arab scientific journals, authors, and the research impact of universities and research institutions. He emphasized that Arcif has provided data that global indicators have not been able to provide or access, successfully bringing Arab scientific production from obscurity to global recognition.

The report also reveals sectoral results, with Egypt leading in several scientific disciplines, including economics, social sciences, education, law, and Islamic studies. Other Arab countries have excelled in specific fields, demonstrating the diversity of scientific expertise across the region. Algeria's top ranking in the number of accredited journals and cited authors solidifies its position on the Arab scientific research map.
