Algeria's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, has launched a thematic research network focused on animal production and health. The network aims to enhance research in this field, strengthen cooperation among sector stakeholders, support innovation and technology, and contribute to human resource development and sustainable growth in the animal industry. This initiative was presented in Algiers, gathering researchers from within the country and abroad.

The newly established network will bring together 70 laboratories and research centers, over 300 researchers and teachers, and more than 100 doctoral students. According to Minister Baddari, the network's primary goal is to ensure Algeria's food security and sovereignty. By uniting local and international researchers, the Algerian government hopes to tap into the expertise of its diaspora and bolster its scientific capabilities.

During the launch event, Minister Baddari emphasized the importance of engaging the scientific community and Algerian researchers abroad in the country's socio-economic development efforts. The minister highlighted that this collaboration will help achieve Algeria's goal of ensuring food security and sovereignty. Representatives from the agriculture sector, members of the National Scientific Community Abroad, and specialized teachers and researchers were present at the event.

The research network's initial findings are expected to be available within six months. Some recommendations are already being considered, including the creation of a hybrid ovine breed and the development of three types of livestock feed. These advancements aim to boost animal production and health in Algeria. The launch event also featured the signing of three research agreements.

The first research agreement focuses on studying the genetic diversity of sheep and possibilities for improvement. The second agreement concerns the treatment of subclinical mastitis cases caused by resistant bacteria and biofilms using alternative methods. The third agreement involves a project to use microalgae and essential oils from medicinal and aromatic plants as an alternative to antibiotics in poultry farming.

This initiative demonstrates Algeria's commitment to advancing scientific research and addressing pressing issues in animal production and health. By mobilizing significant resources and expertise, the country aims to make substantial progress in this field. The network's activities will likely have a positive impact on Algeria's agricultural sector and food security.

The creation of this thematic research network marks a significant milestone in Algeria's scientific development. As the country continues to invest in research and innovation, it is expected to yield positive results in various fields, including animal production and health. The collaboration between local and international researchers will likely foster knowledge sharing and expertise, ultimately benefiting the country.
