The sixth edition of Algeria's medical caravan initiative was launched on November 2, 2026, in Algiers, under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The initiative aims to provide medical care to populations in remote, isolated, and border areas. The campaign, set to run until January 2027, will cover several wilayas in the south and highlands. It is a collaborative effort between the Algerian Youth Network, the Ministry of Youth, and the Ministry of Health.

The medical caravan initiative features a highly equipped mobile clinic, several ambulances, and dozens of medical practitioners and specialized medical team leaders. The teams will travel to multiple communes to provide specialized consultations and fundamental health services directly to citizens. The initiative's slogan, "Together to expand health care," reflects the government's commitment to improving healthcare access. The program is supported by public and private enterprises.

The Minister of Youth, Moustafa Hidaoui, and the Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, jointly launched the initiative. Hidaoui praised the patriotic engagement of young people in various fields, particularly in the health sector. He emphasized that the initiative embodies the values of national solidarity and fruitful complementarity between the associative movement and public institutions.

Minister Hidaoui highlighted the efforts to promote and invest in young people's competencies, enabling the associative movement to play a strategic role in supporting national action. He stressed the need for rigorous evaluation indicators to assess the effectiveness of interventions. Aït Messaoudène emphasized the dual health and human impact of the medical caravans, citing their ability to produce concrete, measurable, and sustainable effects on healthcare quality.

Aït Messaoudène announced plans to expand the initiative to more regions and communes in the highlands and south. He emphasized the importance of partnerships with civil society, citing their ability to maintain direct contact with citizens and address their needs. The minister outlined strategic axes to consolidate the collaborative dynamic, including strengthening institutional anchorage with associative actors and intensifying prevention campaigns.

The minister emphasized the need for continuity in medical follow-up and coordination between mobile medical teams, public health establishments, and reference hospitals. He stressed that the organizational chain must ensure that care extends beyond initial consultations to include diagnosis, treatment, and regular patient follow-up. The government's priority is to ensure equitable access to healthcare.

The medical caravan initiative will target various localities, including El Aricha, In Guezzam, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, and Timimoun. The program aims to provide advanced medical expertise to populations in remote areas, overcoming geographical and topographical barriers to access healthcare. The initiative's impact will be evaluated based on its effectiveness in improving healthcare access and outcomes.
