Algerian and Italian officials and economic stakeholders recently convened to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation in agricultural mechanization and modernization. The discussions focused on introducing cutting-edge technologies, improving harvesting processes, and reducing post-harvest losses. Algeria aims to accelerate agricultural mechanization to enhance harvesting and minimize losses through new technologies and precision farming.
Algerian authorities highlighted the potential for collaboration with foreign partners, particularly Italians, in mechanization and agricultural investment modernization. An example of successful partnership is the large-scale industrial-agricultural project between Algeria and Italy in Témimoun, which showcases effective collaboration in this field. This project demonstrates the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Italian Ambassador to Algeria Alessandra Chiavò emphasized that the Italian economic mission aims to build on existing bilateral exchanges in the agricultural sector. She noted Algeria's transformation in this sector, marked by increased production and expanded cultivated areas in the south. Chiavò believes Italian expertise and technology can significantly contribute to Algeria's agricultural development.
The Italian Trade Agency, in cooperation with the Italian Association of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers, organized an Italian economic mission to Algeria on September 28-29. The mission included companies operating in agricultural machinery, digitalization, smart irrigation, and fruit and vegetable nurseries and storage. These companies participated in the economic forum, bilateral business meetings, and field visits to farms and agricultural investments.
Italian stakeholders expressed interest in strengthening partnerships with Algerian institutions, particularly through technology transfer and tailored solutions for Algeria's agricultural needs. Fabio Ricci, representative of the Italian Federation of Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers, noted opportunities for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
Algerian officials, including Zahreddine Salahi, Director of Agricultural Investment at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, stressed the importance of accelerating agricultural mechanization. Salahi highlighted Algeria's focus on introducing new technologies, such as drones, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence, as well as water-saving irrigation systems.
The discussions also covered potential areas for diversified trade exchanges between Algeria and Italy, including agricultural equipment and machinery, and construction materials. Italian and Algerian stakeholders see opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in these areas, which could contribute to the growth of bilateral trade.
