The 15th Nordic-African Business Summit, a premier business event focused on developing partnerships between African countries and Northern European economies, is set to take place in Oslo. Algeria has been invited as the special guest of honor at this year's summit. The event, organized annually by the Norway-Africa Business Association (NABA) in collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to explore cooperation opportunities between African and Nordic business leaders, investors, and policymakers.
The Algerian delegation, led by Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries Sid Ali Khaldi, will participate in the summit. Khaldi was appointed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to represent Algeria at the event. The summit will feature a high-level participation of officials, economic decision-makers, business leaders, and around 200 companies and project leaders. Over 50 speakers and 15 ambassadors are also expected to attend.
On the eve of the summit, Khaldi, accompanied by Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Marianne Sivertsen Naess, presided over the official opening of "Algeria Day." This event showcases Algeria's economic and cultural potential, highlighting its diversification efforts and investment opportunities in various productive sectors. Algeria's participation in the summit is significant, given its status as one of Africa's largest economies and its growing strategic importance for Nordic businesses.
The Algeria Day event brings together representatives from the Norwegian and Algerian governments, business leaders, investors, and diplomats. The program includes high-level business seminars, an exhibition on trade and investment between Norway and Algeria, and B2B meetings between Norwegian and Algerian companies. Several sectors, including energy, mining, agriculture, and industry, will be featured, offering opportunities for Nordic companies to invest in Algeria.
Algeria has previously implemented several partnership projects with the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. These countries have strong economic, partnership, and investment ties with Algeria. Notable projects include a partnership with Denmark's Novo Nordisk in the pharmaceutical industry, with production facilities in Tizi-Ouzou and Boufarik.
Sweden is also an important partner for Algeria, with several Swedish companies operating in various sectors such as telecommunications, industrial equipment, automotive, technology, and healthcare. Norway's partnership with Algeria is primarily focused on hydrocarbons, through Equinor's long-standing relationship with Sonatrach. Finland has also partnered with Algeria in various areas, including the establishment of a moose harvester factory in Sidi Bel Abbès.
The Nordic-African Business Summit provides a platform for Algeria to strengthen its economic ties with Nordic countries and attract investments in key sectors. The event is expected to foster cooperation and business opportunities between Algerian and Nordic companies, contributing to the growth of bilateral trade and investment.
