Algeria's Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mourad Adjali, has emphasized the country's commitment to enhancing its presence in Africa by sharing expertise and experiences in electricity and renewable energy projects. This effort aligns with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aiming to strengthen African energy cooperation. Algeria is focused on diversifying its energy mix by modernizing the electricity sector and prioritizing renewable energy development.

Dr. Adjali highlighted Algeria's strategy to develop regional electricity interconnections, improving network management and enhancing electricity exchanges. This initiative aims to bolster energy security at the regional level and create new commercial and industrial opportunities through cross-Mediterranean supply chain development. Additionally, Algeria seeks to reduce its carbon footprint in the energy sector.

The Minister stressed Algeria's engagement in producing and developing renewable hydrogen, with a focus on building a comprehensive national value chain in this field. This effort is expected to enhance Algeria's industrial and technological capabilities, supporting its transition towards a more sustainable energy system. Hydrogen production will involve an integrated chain of production, development, and distribution.

Algeria's interest in hydrogen production extends beyond meeting domestic needs, as the country aims to establish international partnerships. Dr. Adjali highlighted the strategic importance of the Southern Hydrogen Corridor, connecting North Africa to Europe, which will promote regional integration and enhance energy security and diversification.

Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Austria, and Germany signed the "Algeria Ministerial Declaration" on October 1, related to the Algeria-Europe Hydrogen Alliance (ALTEH2A) project. The initial results of the project's feasibility study are expected to be released by 2027. This project is a significant step towards achieving Algeria's energy transition goals.

The Algeria-Europe Hydrogen Alliance project aims to create a sustainable and integrated hydrogen production and distribution system. By investing in this sector, Algeria is positioning itself as a key player in the global hydrogen market. The country's efforts to develop its hydrogen industry will likely have a positive impact on its economy and environment.

The development of Algeria's hydrogen industry is expected to have far-reaching benefits, including job creation, technology transfer, and enhanced energy security. As the country continues to invest in renewable energy and hydrogen production, it is likely to become a major player in the global energy market.
