The 14th edition of "Nabak 2026", a leading energy conference, has brought together major international companies and national institutions to discuss the future of sustainable energy. The three-day event aims to map out a new roadmap for accelerating and managing the energy transition, focusing on green hydrogen strategies and carbon reduction technologies. Algeria's Minister of State for Energy, Mohamed Arkab, and Minister of Renewable Energy, as well as representatives from Namibia, the African Oil-Producing Countries Organization, and Sonatrach, are in attendance.
The conference takes place at a critical time, with the global energy landscape undergoing significant changes. The event's organizer highlighted the importance of addressing the question of how to meet the world's energy needs while building a more sustainable energy future. For years, discussions have centered on the concept of energy transition, with a focus on reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and developing renewable energy sources.
Sonatrach's CEO, Noureddine Dahoudi, praised the efforts that have brought together a distinguished group of energy leaders and experts. He emphasized that this dialogue is more important than ever, representing a significant opportunity for Algeria and Sonatrach to exchange experiences, deepen partnerships, and contribute to shaping a more secure, resilient, and sustainable energy future.
Dahoudi noted that Algeria's strategic location, large energy resources, and infrastructure enable the country to play a key role in enhancing energy connectivity between Africa, the Mediterranean, and Europe. He highlighted the importance of technology and innovation in this process, citing the concept of "energy addition" as a more realistic and balanced approach to the energy future.
The "Algeria Bid Round 2026" international tender has generated significant interest among global energy players, with nearly 60 international companies expressing interest in investing in seven exploration and development blocks. The National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources has reported that almost half of these companies have accessed technical data packages and virtual data rooms.
The head of the Regulatory Authority for Hydrocarbons, Amin Ramini, emphasized that developing Algeria's oil and gas resources must be aligned with responsible energy and climate goals, ensuring a balance between resource exploitation and sustainability. Meanwhile, the American Chamber of Commerce in Algeria's president, Warren Merdogh, described Algeria as a significant opportunity for strengthening energy and investment partnerships between Algeria and the United States.
Merdogh noted that Algeria has a prominent position as a major gas producer globally and a key supplier to Europe, with significant potential for energy resources. He described Algeria as a reliable partner for the United States and other countries seeking to invest in the energy sector. The conference provides a platform for discussions on shaping a more sustainable energy future and exploring investment opportunities in Algeria's energy sector.
