The 14th edition of the North Africa and Mediterranean Energy and Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition, also known as NAPEC 2026, began on Monday in Oran, Algeria. The event will run until October 7 at the Mohamed Ben Ahmed Convention Centre. The conference is being organized under the theme "Towards a new approach to the energy mix, from energy transition to energy addition: with guaranteed energy security."
The opening ceremony of NAPEC 2026 was attended by Algerian Minister of State for Energy, Mohamed Arkab, and Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Merad Ajal. Other notable attendees include the Secretary-General of the African Petroleum Producers' Organization (APPO), Farid Ghezali, and the President and CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Noureddine Dahoudi.
The conference has attracted over 450 exhibitors and more than 230 speakers, representing national and international oil and gas companies, technology providers, engineering and project management companies, public institutions, research centers, and universities. The event aims to bring together industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the latest developments and trends in the energy sector.
The Algerian government has been actively promoting the country's energy sector, with a focus on developing its hydrocarbon resources and increasing its energy production. The NAPEC conference provides a platform for Algeria to showcase its energy potential and attract foreign investment.

The European Union is also represented at the conference, with the EU Ambassador to Algeria, Diego Medo Pasko, in attendance. The EU has been a key partner for Algeria in the energy sector, providing significant funding and technical assistance for various energy projects.
