The Algerian Ministry of National Education announced on Tuesday that it is extending the suspension of classes in all educational institutions until Thursday, May 14. This decision is part of the country's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The ministry had previously implemented measures to mitigate the impact of the suspension on students' learning.

The extension of the suspension is aimed at containing the spread of the virus, which has been affecting many countries worldwide. As part of the measures, the ministry will continue to broadcast educational programs on public television channels and provide online support through the National Office for Distance Education and Training (ENEFD) platform.

To ensure that students do not fall behind in their studies, the ministry has been providing educational resources through various channels. These include pilot courses for the third trimester of the 2019-2020 academic year on public television channels and support courses on the ENEFD platform. Additionally, YouTube and local radio stations will broadcast educational programs for students across all three levels of education.

Minister of National Education, Mohamed Ouadjaout, recently held a meeting with accredited education sector unions to discuss the remaining part of the academic year. The meeting focused on the organization of national exams and the implementation of programs in the three education cycles, considering possible scenarios of prolonged confinement or deconfinement.

On Monday, the minister also met with parents' associations, reassuring them that there would be no blank year for the 2019/2020 academic year. He cited the progress made in implementing programs in the three education levels up to March 12, before the preventive measures against COVID-19 were put in place.

The Algerian government has been taking various measures to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the education sector. These measures aim to ensure that students continue to learn despite the suspension of classes. The ministry is working to find alternative solutions to support students and teachers during this challenging period.

The extension of the class suspension until May 14 reflects the government's cautious approach to managing the pandemic. The situation will continue to be monitored, and further decisions will be made based on the evolution of the pandemic and the advice of health experts.
