Algeria celebrated the 64th anniversary of regaining its sovereignty over national radio and television on October 28. The occasion was marked by a commemorative ceremony at the headquarters of the Algerian Radio and Television, attended by Minister of Communication Mohamed Bouslimani and other officials. The event honored the pioneers of Algeria's audiovisual sector and their patriotic legacy.

The recapture of national radio and television on October 28, 1962, was a pivotal moment in Algeria's history, following decades of colonial rule. Algerian workers in the sector overcame significant challenges to take control of broadcasting, defying attempts to silence the voice of an independent Algeria. Minister Bouslimani praised the determination of the first Algerian journalists and technicians who ensured continuity of broadcasting despite difficulties.

Bouslimani emphasized the importance of drawing inspiration from the commitment of these pioneers to face current challenges, including attacks from hostile parties. He recalled that French experts had predicted the collapse of Algerian media after their departure, but the sector has undergone significant transformations, including the 1986 reform that created the Public Broadcasting Enterprise (EPRS) and the Public Television Enterprise (EPTV).

Radio National Director General Hicham Allali described the event as a landmark in Algeria's media history, stressing the importance of remembering the sacrifices of predecessors and learning from them. The ceremony included the playing of the national anthem, laying a wreath, and reciting the Fatiha in memory of journalists and technicians who contributed to this reconquest.

On the sidelines of the celebration, Minister Bouslimani announced the imminent finalization of implementing texts for the organic law on information and the establishment of regulatory authorities. He highlighted the transition to digital broadcasting and the need for a new economic model for the press in the digital age, in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's vision.

Bouslimani also emphasized the importance of respecting journalists' rights, generalizing work contracts, and eradicating undeclared employment. He announced a priority program for journalist training, covering various specialties, and the creation of facilities for journalists at the International Conference Center (CIC) to improve working conditions.

The Minister called on journalists to strengthen their presence on the ground, improve coverage of structuring projects, and anticipate and verify information to counter misinformation. He stressed that Algeria is engaged in a media war and that journalists must be mobilized to disseminate credible information quickly.
