Algeria's hydrocarbon sector continues to attract foreign investment, with 60 companies expressing interest in the country's 2026 bid round. The bid round, launched in April, has been deemed a success by Abdelkader Cherfaoui, president of the National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (Alnaft). Cherfaoui described the level of interest as a strong signal of Algeria's persistent attractiveness to investors.

The companies that have expressed interest in the bid round represent a diverse range of international operators. According to Cherfaoui, half of the 60 companies have already accessed the technical data and virtual data rooms made available to them since June 1. This has allowed them to conduct thorough evaluations and analyses of the opportunities on offer.

To give participating companies more time to finalize their evaluations, Alnaft has extended the deadline for submitting offers by two months. The new deadline for submitting offers is January 25, 2027, while the period for accessing data rooms has been extended until November 30, 2026. The contracts with the selected operators are expected to be signed by March 31, 2027.

The 2026 bid round is expected to generate significant investment in Algeria's hydrocarbon sector. In addition to investment, the bid round is also expected to lead to the transfer of technology, the development of local companies, and the creation of sustainable value for Algeria. Cherfaoui emphasized Alnaft's approach, which prioritizes transparency, competitiveness, trust, and partnership.

Algeria's hydrocarbon sector has significant potential, with substantial resources, a vast mining domain, and major infrastructure. The country's strategic location at the crossroads of Africa, the Mediterranean, and Europe also makes it an attractive destination for investors. Cherfaoui highlighted Algeria's ambition to leverage these advantages while preparing for the country's energy future.

The future of energy will depend on the ability to combine solutions, accelerate innovation, and strengthen partnerships, according to Cherfaoui. He emphasized that Algeria is open to partnerships and is committed to pursuing and deepening dialogue with international investors. The 14th edition of the North Africa Petroleum and Energy Conference (NAPEC) provided a platform for Alnaft to showcase the opportunities available in Algeria's mining sector.

Through its participation in NAPEC, Alnaft aims to promote Algeria's mining sector and highlight the country's technical capabilities and development prospects. The event provides an opportunity for investors to learn more about the opportunities available in Algeria and for Alnaft to engage with international partners.
