Algerian Minister of State for Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, and Senegalese Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Hadi Abdourahmane Diouf, met to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons sector. The meeting aimed to strengthen ties between the two countries and explore opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The discussion was attended by Senegal's ambassador to Algeria, Mbabba Koura Ndiaye, and officials from the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

The two ministers praised the strong historical and fraternal relations between Algeria and Senegal, and reaffirmed their commitment to elevating their partnership to a strategic level. They discussed ways to develop cooperation in various stages of the oil and gas value chain, including exploration, production, field development, refining, and petrochemicals. The ministers also emphasized the importance of enhancing partnership between Algeria's Sonatrach and Senegal's PETROSEN.

The meeting focused on supporting training and knowledge transfer, particularly between Algeria's Institute of Petroleum and Sonatrach's Management Academy, and specialized institutions in Senegal. This aims to develop skills and support Senegalese cadres in the hydrocarbons sector, as well as study and manage petroleum data, industrial safety, and environmental protection. The discussions also touched on recent discoveries in Senegal's energy sector.

Minister Arkab emphasized that Algeria, under the guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, attaches great importance to strengthening African cooperation and promoting partnerships. He stressed the need for increased coordination between African countries, particularly within the African Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries (APPO), to optimize resource utilization, ensure energy security, and address the challenges of energy transition.

Minister Diouf expressed Senegal's interest in benefiting from Algeria's expertise in exploration, production, and refining. He praised the high efficiency of Algerian human resources and the technical expertise of national institutions, particularly Sonatrach. Diouf also emphasized Senegal's commitment to expanding joint investments with added value for both countries.

The two ministers reviewed the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between Sonatrach and PETROSEN, which are expected to open up new investment opportunities and facilitate the transfer of technology and expertise. They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as data management, industrial safety, and environmental protection.
