Alexandra de Navacelle de Coubertin, descendant of Pierre de Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games, visited Dakar for the "Empreinte 100 ans: la paix par le sport et l'art" exhibition. The event, held at the Musée des Civilisations Noires, showcased works by 14 Senegalese artists. De Coubertin expressed her admiration for the artists' proposals, highlighting their diversity and creativity. She noted that art is a universal language, resonating with her ancestor's vision of giving youth freedom of spirit.

The exhibition, conceived in the spirit of the Paris 2024 cultural Olympics, is the second pan-African edition. It was organized by Jingshi Feng, with Senegalese artist Kalidou Kassé as associate curator. The exhibition brings together artists from across Senegal to illustrate the country's creative diversity. Their works address major issues of the century, combining vibrant colors, textures, and interactive devices.

Jingshi Feng emphasized that the exhibition's scenography integrates a remarkable fusion of tradition and modernity. The artworks on display dialogue with each other within the vast galleries, while digital installations coexist with artisanal craftsmanship. The creations also establish a direct patrimonial echo with Senegal's cultural geography, incorporating visual references to seven UNESCO-listed sites in the country.

The "Empreinte 100 ans" exhibition is a visual plea for peace and transmission, on display in Dakar until November 15. It will then travel to other locations worldwide, culminating in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Habibou Dia, representing the Minister of Communication and Relations with Institutions, noted that this exhibition marks the beginning of a broader dynamic in preparation for the Dakar Youth Olympic Games (JOJ).

Dia highlighted the significant impact of such an event on youth and continental radiance. He emphasized that the exhibition goes beyond aesthetics, aligning with the government's strategy to make Senegal a major hub for sports and cultural excellence in Africa. Dia praised the genius of local creators, who, through their works, proudly showcase Senegalese cultural diversity.

The exhibition's vernissage foreshadows the effervescence and universal communion expected during the upcoming Dakar JOJ. By uniting the international Olympic memory, embodied by the Coubertin family, and the territorial anchoring of the country's 14 regions, the event sets the stage for a momentous occasion.

The "Empreinte 100 ans" exhibition celebrates the intersection of art, sport, and culture, embodying the Olympic spirit. It demonstrates the potential for creative expression to promote peace and understanding. As the exhibition travels to new destinations, it will continue to inspire and foster cultural exchange.
