Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving financing arrangements for the Ibom Deep Seaport project, describing it as a defining moment in the state's economic journey. The project is expected to transform the state's economy and position it as a major maritime hub in the Gulf of Guinea. Eno made this known in a statewide broadcast following the President's official visit to Akwa Ibom.
The Ibom Deep Seaport project is more than an infrastructure development, according to Governor Eno, as it will serve as a gateway to economic transformation, repositioning Akwa Ibom as a major player in Nigeria's maritime industry and international commerce. The governor expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the state and his commitment to the realization of the project. He assured the President of the state government's full cooperation to ensure its successful implementation.
During President Tinubu's visit to Akwa Ibom, he inaugurated the newly completed international terminal of the Victor Attah International Airport and announced his support for the Ibom Deep Seaport project. Governor Eno linked the President's gesture to the state's political support ahead of the 2027 general election, pledging that Akwa Ibom residents would vote overwhelmingly for Tinubu on January 16, 2027.
Governor Eno thanked residents for their massive turnout and hospitality extended to the President and his entourage, saying their participation demonstrated that Akwa Ibom remained a peaceful, welcoming, and investment-ready state. He particularly acknowledged traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, youths, women, students, public servants, security agencies, and members of the various committees for their contributions to the successful hosting of the presidential visit.
The governor also expressed appreciation to Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the Senate President, governors, and other dignitaries who accompanied the President. He reiterated his administration's commitment to working with the Federal Government to deliver the Ibom Deep Seaport and other development priorities.
Governor Eno concluded by expressing optimism about the state's development prospects, urging residents to remain united behind his administration's ARISE agenda, which he said was anchored on building a prosperous Akwa Ibom. The governor's remarks reflect the state's expectations from the Ibom Deep Seaport project, which is anticipated to drive economic growth and create new opportunities for international trade and investment.
Key stakeholders have welcomed the development, recognizing the potential of the Ibom Deep Seaport to drive economic growth in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria's Gulf of Guinea region. The project is expected to create new opportunities for international trade, investment, industrial growth, and employment, ultimately contributing to the state's economic transformation.
