Akwa Ibom State recently celebrated its 39th anniversary since its creation on September 23, 1987. As part of the commemoration, the Eno administration's scorecard in key sectors of the economy was showcased during the ongoing Ministerial Briefing by cabinet members. The briefing, held at Government House in Uyo, highlighted the administration's achievements in the last three years.
The Commissioners for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr. Offiong Offor, and Hon. Nsikak Ekong, presented their ministries' performance under the Eno administration. They gave the administration a pass mark, citing various interventions in agriculture and environment sectors since 2023. These interventions align with the ARISE Agenda blueprint of the government.
The administration has implemented several initiatives, including the provision of subsidized tractors and ₦2 billion in farmer grants. A total of 486 kilometers of rural feeder roads have been constructed, and flood control and waste management initiatives have been launched. Under the agricultural program, the government has procured an equipment leasing company and provided tractors and other implements to farmers at a 50% subsidy on land preparation.
The scheme aims to reduce dependence on traditional farming methods and make mechanized agriculture more accessible. According to Dr. Offor, ₦2 billion in grants has been provided to farmers across crop and livestock value chains. Monitoring teams have been set up to ensure the funds are used as intended. The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has also complemented the administration's agricultural intervention scheme.
The RAAMP project, jointly funded by the World Bank, the French Development Agency, the federal government, and the State government, aims to improve farmers' access to markets, reduce post-harvest losses, and ease access to schools and healthcare facilities in rural communities. The project has earmarked 486 kilometers of rural feeder roads across the 31 local government areas.
The administration has also distributed improved agricultural inputs, including cassava cuttings, maize, and pumpkin seeds, to farmers. Support has been provided for cocoa growers under the Tree Crop Revolution Programme. Over 250,000 oil palm seedlings are targeted for distribution across the 31 local government areas, with 14 local government areas having received seedlings so far, and 1,700 farmers reached.
Furthermore, over 250,000 cocoa seedlings were distributed to over 3,000 farmers in 2025, while over 100,000 seedlings were distributed to over 850 cocoa farmers in 2026. A 50-hectare integrated model farm combining crop and livestock production with training, processing, and agro-tourism facilities has been developed. The Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Programme (AKADEP) has also been revamped to strengthen extension services.
