Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Nyesom Wike, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, have launched a mobilization effort in the North-central geopolitical zone and Rivers State to secure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election in 2027. Akume, also the Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, and Wike led separate campaign trails in Abuja and Akpor Kingdom, Rivers State, to galvanize grassroots support for the President and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In Abuja, Akume met with National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and other stakeholders to outline the network's strategy. He disclosed that the North-central Grassroots Mobilisation Network was established to mobilize votes across the zone for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket. Akume emphasized the importance of the North-central region in the 2027 electoral process and expressed confidence in the region's capacity to organize and mobilize support for the President.
The North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network has planned three major activities to drive its mobilization campaign. A grand rally is scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State, while a comprehensive medical outreach programme will be implemented across states in the zone. The network will also embark on a grassroots advocacy tour and town hall meetings covering the 19 senatorial districts across the six North Central states and the FCT.
The medical outreach programme will provide eye screening and treatment, cataract assessment, and surgical services, among others. This initiative aims to complement the political mobilization with humanitarian services for people at the grassroots. Akume stated that the advocacy tour and town hall meetings will provide an opportunity for direct engagement with communities across the North-central region.
The initiative was endorsed by the APC National Secretariat and initiated by the National Coordinator of the network, Sonny Echono, and other stakeholders. Akume urged stakeholders to approach the assignment with commitment, unity, and confidence. He emphasized that the North-central region is crucial in the 2027 electoral process.
In his remarks, Yilwatda stated that North-central stakeholders have resolved to mobilize substantial support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election. The stakeholders affirmed their commitment to working collectively across the region to ensure the President's re-election. Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule, and other stakeholders were present at the meeting.
The mobilization effort by Akume and Wike is seen as a strategic move to shore up support for President Tinubu in the North-central region and Rivers State. The President's re-election bid is expected to face stiff competition, and the support of key stakeholders in these regions will be crucial. The North-central Grassroots Mobilisation Network's activities are aimed at galvanizing grassroots support and ensuring a landslide victory for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in 2027.
